The Higher School of Biological Sciences of Oran hosted the doctoral thesis defence of Ms Marwa Aireche in Biotechnology and Health on Thursday, 9 July 2026 at 14:00.
This defence was a historic moment for our institution: the first doctoral thesis defence in ESSBO’s history. Beyond its symbolic significance, it marks a major milestone in the school’s scientific development. It reflects the growth of doctoral education, the progressive organisation of research, and ESSBO’s ambition to contribute fully to knowledge creation, innovation and scientific engagement at national and international levels.
This first defence is part of a record of excellence already recognised at the highest national level. Ms Marwa Aireche won First Prize in the Student category of the second edition (2026) of the President of the Republic’s Award for the Innovative Researcher.
On this occasion, we extend our warmest congratulations to Ms Marwa Aireche on her successful defence, and commend her commitment, perseverance and academic achievements.
We also congratulate her doctoral supervisor, Prof. Mohamed Merzoug, for his rigorous supervision, the quality of his scientific guidance and his decisive contribution to the completion of this doctoral work.
We thank the examination committee members for their time, their expertise and their valuable contribution to the assessment of this research.
